Analysing Metallic Percussion

Metallic percussion (hi-hats, cymbals, gongs) gets its characteristic shimmer from inharmonic frequency ratios. Unlike pitched drums, these sounds are built from multiple square-wave oscillators tuned to non-integer multiples of a base frequency, creating dense, complex spectra that we perceive as metallic.
