Part 14

Additive Synthesis

Every sound can be built by stacking sine waves. A Hammond organ uses drawbars to mix 9 harmonics in real time. Static harmonics give you an organ, but per-harmonic envelopes are what make real instruments sound alive. Different harmonics decay at different rates in a piano, bell, or brass tone.
