Envelopes, Gates & Triggers

A note is more than pitch. It has a shape over time. The ADSR envelope controls how a sound starts, fades, holds, and dies. The crucial difference between retrigger and legato modes defines the character of classic synths: that's why an Odyssey sounds punchy and a Minimoog sounds smooth.
