Of Filters & Phase Relationships

Filters don't just remove frequencies. They also shift the phase of frequencies near the cutoff. This phase shift is what gives filtered sounds their character. The blue curve shows which frequencies pass through (magnitude); the orange curve shows how much the filter delays each frequency (phase). Try sweeping the cutoff and watch both curves change together.
