Synthesizing Bowed Strings
A bowed string produces a sawtooth-like waveform as the bow alternately grips and releases the string (stick-slip motion). The instrument's body resonances act as formant filters, giving each member of the string family its distinctive tonal character. Bow pressure and vibrato add expressive nuance.
